  • Chocolate Milk Review: Mars Milkshake

When it comes to chocolate milk, there is one that (for me) stands above the rest. If an old friend was to meet up with me and wanted to bring a drink as a present, it would probably be a mars milkshake – ive often wondered why Mars haven’t sponsored me yet with how many ive bought and consumed throughout the years and how famous together we have become haha… 😐

    Mars. Probably my fav :)

Anyway, Mars milk has a hint of caramel as well as its based around a mars bar – the taste is similar but you are never going to replicate an actual marsbar in a drink!

They taste delicious and are apparently not too bad for athletes or something – i read it on the bottle once but didn’t pay that much attention.

They also so an extra choc one that is ok but it loses its Mars Charm as there is less caramel – and the thick shake is nice but it will never be the original mars milkshake. And for those of you who dont drink it often you can get it in a powder form so you can enjoy whenever you want.

I actually think it tastes better out a carton – like coke out a glass bottle – there is just something about it 🙂

  • Chocolate Milk Review: Battle of the Supermarkets Part 1

Every supermarket sells their own brand chocolate milk alongside the popular brands, and most of them are pretty much on par with them too. It’s Tesco and Asda up first, and both offer a similar drink in terms of taste, quantity and value – except the tesco one tasted a lot sweeter and the packaging was more childish, whereas the asda drink tasted like it was less artificial, not as sweet – slightly better quality maybe?

If I was to go and buy one of them again now, I’d buy the asda brand one!

    Tesco Chocolate Milk – 6/10
    Asda Chocolate Milk – 7/10

And in the supermarket rankings it’s Asda in first place with Tesco not far behind..

    Next, Sainsburys and Co-op 🙂

  • Chocolate Milk Review: Funtime Chocolate Milk

The next chocolate milk review on the cards is at the budget end of the scale – and in fact is possibly the worst choc milk ive ever had the misfortune of drinking.

    Funtime Chocolate Milk - Gross

We shop in booker quite a bit, and i often pick up a crate of chocolate milk to keep me going whilst everyone else drinks their cans of energy. I usually buy Yazoo as you cant go wrong with that – however this time round i chose Funtime Chocolate Milk and boy was i disappointed when i got back to the office.

This drink manages to taste exactly how you would imagine “Brown water” to taste. Its awful, flavourless and i struggle to drink a whole bottle.

If i’d paid 59p for it too i’d be well pissed off.

If funtime would like to improve their recipe and send me some to try ill be happy to re-review, but for now don’t buy this crap.

    Funtime Chocolate Milk – 1/10

  • Chocolate Milk Review – Arla Gulp & Wing-Co

I heard someone say “write about what you know” once in a movie, or maybe it wasn’t a movie – maybe i didn’t hear anyone say it at all – well wherever i heard it, i have decided to embrace it and start reviewing chocolate milk as its something that i know – and am quite well known for drinking.

Rather than start with something run-of-the-mill im starting my chocolate milk reviews by talking about 2 new brands from the same manufacturer.

    New chocolate milk review...

Arla are no newcomer to the milk product world but they are newbies in the chocolate milk world – this report on the Grocer written only a few months ago states how Arla “are not in it for the short term, we are not a flash in the pan” which to me is good news as their first two efforts are not too shabby.

I’ll start with Gulp – a kind of obviously named chocolate milk drink with a very different flavour compared to similar drinks on the market here in the UK – it reminded me of how chocolate milk tasted in europe (chocomel etc) but its much thicker like a Friij. It a nice alternative to the other thicker chocolate milks on the market and i would definitely buy again.

The Wing-Co chocolate drink was a different beast altogether – its being aimed at men and marketed as an alternative to snacking – it contains 40% more protein than other chocolate milks and you can taste it when you drink it – its nice, but it was very filling and it cant really be consumed as a drink which to me kind of defeats the point. I may buy it again – but when i’m hungry not thirsty.

All in all, both drinks were nice and i would buy both again depending on circumstances – i prefer the bottle shape this size too, it means you can hold and store a bit easier.

    Chocolate Gulp – 8/10
    Wing-Co Chocolate – 6/10

EDIT: Bought Arla Gulp a few times since and realised that it reminds me of the taste of chocolate custard or chocolate rice pudding… I knew it was familiar
