  • Living in Chesterfield

    Yes – that’s not a misprint, I am now a resident of CHESTERFIELD!

    Gem and I have been looking for a new house for a while as she had to travel far to work every day, and all her mates were so far away so she couldn’t easily (and quickly) go and visit them – my friends all have cars so its not as much of an issue 🙂

    Anyway, we drove about one day looking down random roads and when we got home we used the awesome “Draw-a-Search” feature on Rightmove, and BLAM, a house cropped up that we instantly fell in love with!

    Its a little two bedroomed cottage in a little village called Scarcliffe, just outside Bolsover.

    We went to view it on the Monday, had the application in for the Wednesday, and picked up the keys the following Monday!

    The only thing left to do was pack up our entire life into boxes, and shift then 20ish miles out of Mansfield! Let me tell you – its not something I’d want to do often, what a headache!

    That said, the move went quite well, and just over a week later we are 100% moved! We just need to fully unpack the boxes that are scattered about, and decide what furniture we are keeping and what we are selling.

    The things that totally sold the house to me were the following;

    1. Its absolutely beautiful
    2. Its exactly half way between both mine and gem’s work
    3. And it has a GARAGE!

    Check out this badboy;

    I’m so excited, within a few days ive filled it with my crap and then started sorted though it so its nice and organised – it makes you realise how much stuff you’ve got when its all in one place!

    There will be lots of pics and updates to my blog now as there are so many amazing new this to photograph..

    Oh – and before i forget, we are now going to be advertising “web design chesterfield” as we can now serve that area better as i live a stones throw away 🙂

    Good times!

  • I F’kin LoveFilm!

    For years and years I have borrowed films off friends or occasionally visited the cinema to enjoy them – but as my love for films grows, as does my respect for the actors, directors and people who work on these awesome movies, so I decided to join LoveFilm.

    You see the adverts on TV all the time, there are occasionally people selling memberships to the public in the town centre – but for years and years i ignored them. I finally signed up a few months ago, and so far i have to say – I absolutely love it!

    The first thing i did was look through newly added films, and checked out the quality of the free-to-stream movies they have on there. I was a little disappointed that there seemed to be a lack of new-new films, LoveFilm seems to be a little bit behind other companies in regards that – but then i had a brain fart, and ive not looked back since.

    It became clear to me that I was never gonna get the most from it if i was simpyl waiting for the latest and greatest films to be released, so i started thinking of films from my childhood that i loved – searched for the, and added them to my rental queue!

    Since doing that we’ve had a different movie on our door every couple of days, and We’ve watched everything from Drop Dead Fred, right through to Leon (one of my faves) and everything in-between.

    We have also watched a load of films online that we would never normally have rented or watched, some turned out to be REALLY good films, some of which i will be reviewing in an attempt at getting more people to watch them.

    Those films include Dead Man Running, Rampage, Wonderland, P2 and the Secretary – all very different, but all very good – it makes me wonder how some of these films don’t make it to cinema!

    Anyway, If you really Love Film, then join LoveFilm and start exploring the thousands and thousands of films you wont have ever seen – guaranteed!

  • Being Creative

    Im a fairly creative person, and for a while now ive wanted to express my creativeness in some kind of visual or audible form.

    Ive debated doing some kind of music but i;

    a) Cant play any musical instruments

    b) Dont know how to use any music making programs

    I also thought of doing some kind of film/movie/short documentary type thing and spreading it virally, but then i look for inspiration and cant decide on a topic of theme for it.

    There are so many funny videos, characters (some better than others) covering a wide spectrum of topics and all approaching it at different angles..

    So where does that leave me?

    I’m gonna make this a thing for 2011 and give it some proper thought before diving in.

    In the meantime if anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear them 🙂

  • Driving yourself mad

    I don’t really do a lot of daytime driving, my car is currently off the road so the only time I do lots of driving is when I have the car at weekends or when we go somewhere in the evenings.

    Due to the snow last week I was driving Gemma to work, so i had the car in the daytime and it brought a few things to my attention.

    1) The overtaking lane on motorways

    If you travel to somewhere like France, the motorways/highways are policed, heavily. People use the lanes properly, and the traffic flows well.

    In England, the outside lane consists of people driving along at 70mph completely unaware of the situation they are causing behind them. Its not fair to blame a particular type of car driver, or a certain type of motorist – it can be anyone in anything.. England just seems to have a lot motorists who need educating about how to properly use a motorway!

    Outside lane = FOR OVERTAKING… Its NOT the “Fast” lane!!!

    2) Traffic Lights

    Now i have no issue with Traffic Lights, they do a good job, and when configured properly they can take care of the most complicated junctions with ease. However that brings me to my point – they are generally not configured very well! The amount of times I sit at some traffic lights waiting to pull left onto a main road, and I’m watching traffic pull in to the road I’m coming from (so turning right) is untrue!

    Why cant my lane also be allowed to go? There is no risk, no crossed traffic streams, no danger!!!!! So why not reconfigure them?? How hard can that be????

    3) Where is the fire?

    It also became apparent how much of a damm rush everyone is in! I mean, sure, everyone has to get somewhere sometimes in a hurry, and I know there are lots of people on the roads so that means potentially a lot of people needing to get somewhere in a hurry – but god, damm!  Where the hell is the fire?

    I’ve seen so many near misses, nearly been run off the road and been overtaken in completely stupid places risking peoples lives – if people calmed down a bit I’m sure we would all still get there on time, and the road would be a less rage’y place 🙂

    4) And finally… The council…

    We’ve had a lot of snow recently and although the council had been gritting the roads a fair bit beforehand – their overall effort failed miserably and most of the roads were un-usable for days!

    The worst part of it all is that literally weeks after, the roads still have “welded” ice on the roads, huge friggin chunks of it! We were driving down to the quarry and we had to move out the way of an oncoming car – *POW* – we were facing the wall and had been spun round in the road!

    ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
