I have had my new laptop for a whole day and i have already had one major error that made the thing useless. I rebooted after McAfee said it had installed some updates and when it came back around i got this error;
“The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.”
It logged me out and sat there asking for a password.
What?!
I tried a different password as i wasn’t sure if it was vistas way of saying “Wrong password dummy” – but it wasn’t – it said that the password was wrong.
So i grabbed gemmas laptop and started looking online for solutions.
I found this website with a step by step guide to fix the problem. The actual problem its self is something to do with the user account going into backup mode. There are sa few variations of the problem, I had the one with the two entries in the registry and once i got to step 8 i deleted the old backup entry and then rebooted and logged in fine.
No one seems clear on why the problem arises – but at least we know how to sort it.
